Every way to take orders without the app commission.
The delivery apps aren't the only way to sell online. Here's every option I could price for a Canadian restaurant: the monthly fee, what each order costs, and the catch. I sell one of them, so it's in the table too.

Every option, priced
Monthly fee, what each order costs you, and the catch. Canadian prices where the company publishes them; where it doesn't, the table says so.

| The Order KitchenGlass Floor Studio, that's me | $240 care | 2.9% + $0.30Stripe's rate, paid to Stripe | $6,900 one-time build, and it's a whole website, not just an order page. The domain and customer list are yours. Delivery needs your own driver or a courier service. |

Which one fits you
You're already on Uber Eats or DoorDash
Their own order pages are the cheapest way to stop paying commission on your regulars: 2.9% on Uber's, 3.3% + 30¢ on DoorDash's, no monthly fee. If that's all you want, start there.
You already use Square or Clover
Use their online ordering. It connects to the register you already have, and adding a second system just to take orders makes no sense.
You have a website and a tight budget
GloriaFood adds an order button for free. You'll need to be comfortable setting it up, and taking cards costs US$29 a month.
You want it all done for you
A full website with ordering built in, run for you: that's Owner.com or a studio like mine. Owner.com is a monthly subscription. I charge a one-time build fee and a lower monthly care fee, and there's no percentage on any order.
Who owns the customer?
On a delivery app, the customer's name, email and order history live in the app's system. You can't email them a Tuesday special, and if you leave the app you leave them behind.
On an ordering system you control, every order adds a name and email that belong to you. For a restaurant with regulars, that list is worth more than the fee saving, because telling a regular about a special costs nothing.
Questions to ask any provider
- Can I export my customer list, and in what format?
- What does each order cost me, all in, including card processing?
- Is there a contract, and what does leaving cost?
- Who handles delivery, and what does that cost per order?
- Whose name is the domain registered in?
Questions people ask
What is the cheapest way for a restaurant to take online orders in Canada?
If you're already on Uber Eats, its Webshop charges 2.9% per order with no monthly fee. DoorDash's online ordering is 3.3% + 30 cents. Square Online's free plan charges 2.8% + 30 cents per order. GloriaFood's core ordering is free, with a US$29 monthly add-on for card payments.
Is there commission-free online ordering for restaurants?
Yes. Uber Eats Webshop, DoorDash online ordering, Square Online, GloriaFood, Clover, Toast and a restaurant's own ordering site all take orders without a marketplace commission. You still pay card processing, and some charge a monthly fee.
How much does Owner.com cost in Canada?
Owner.com lists two Canadian plans: $349 a month plus a 5% fee per order, or $699 a month with no per-order restaurant fee. Customers pay a 5% order support fee on both.
Does Toast have online ordering in Canada?
Yes. Toast's Canadian online ordering is commission-free, but its price isn't published. Toast's register plans start at $120 a month.
Can I keep using Uber Eats and DoorDash as well?
Yes, and most restaurants should. The apps bring in customers who have never heard of you. Your own ordering is for the regulars who already know you and shouldn't cost you commission every time.
What does your own ordering site cost with Glass Floor Studio?
The Order Kitchen is $6,900 one time plus $240 a month for care, which covers hosting, backups, monitoring and edits. There's no percentage on orders; you pay Stripe's standard card processing, 2.9% + 30 cents.
